Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) recycling via steam gasification – The effect of operating conditions on gas and tar composition

Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) is widely used in textile fiber, film, and bottles. Although PET bottle recycling has made great progress, other waste still not recycled. Gasification could be an option for or recovering energy chemicals from waste. However, single stream steam gasification fluidized bed seldom investigated. In this paper, individual experiments were then conducted a lab-scale bubbling to investigate how gasifying agents, temperature, residence time steam/fuel ratio affect the product composition. The results showed that, gasification, was main source of H2, but increasing fuel cannot increase H2 yield remarkably. Temperature essential parameter. Increasing temperature 750 800 °C improved yields (+87.7%), dominant gas CO2 (+40.3%), biphenyl (+123%) notably. contrast common thermoplastics, high concentrations are prominent characteristics gasification. addition, plastic optimizations syngas applications discussed.
